Gulfstream opens Beijing sales office

Gulfstream celebrated the grand opening of its new Beijing office in the China World Tower on Wednesday. The office, located in the middle of Beijing’s Central Business District, will give customers centralized access to Gulfstream resources in the rapidly growing Chinese market.  

“As the business aviation market continues to expand in Asia Pacific, it becomes increasingly important that Gulfstream and General Dynamics have a permanent presence in Beijing,” said Larry Flynn, President, Gulfstream.

“The Beijing office allows us to respond to customer needs more effectively and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in the region.”  Herman Chai, Regional Sales Vice President, Far East Asia, Gulfstream, heads the China sales office. Leda M.L. Chong, Senior Vice President, Asia-Pacific region, General Dynamics, is also headquartered there. Chai oversees sales in mainland China, Japan and South Korea. Chong’s responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating activities among representatives of the General Dynamics Aerospace group, which includes Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation, identifying opportunities for partnering with Chinese companies and coordinating with Chinese aviation authorities to expand company offerings in the Asia-Pacific region.

  “China has emerged as one of our most important global markets. Our customer base there is growing rapidly,” said Chai. “We’ve learned how important it is to stay close to customers, to be a regular and easily reachable presence for them. This office responds to those needs.”

Dassault Falcon 900LX

Dassault’s Falcon 900LX, the newest member of the Falcon line, has won certification from both the EASA and FAA.

The large-cabin 900LX is based on the 900EX but with enhanced performance and economy. Emphasising that the trijet burns 35 to 40 percent less fuel than other aircraft in its class, Dassault attributes the improved performance to advanced lightweight structure, a more efficient wing and blended winglets from Aviation Partners.

The airplane’s range of 4,750 nm allows nonstop flights between such city pairs as New York and Moscow. Further flight tests are continuing to gain approvals for more advanced operations, such as Category III landing, with target dates scheduled for next year.

Gulfstream G650 sets world record as Fastest Civil Aircraft

The Gulfstream G650 flew at its proposed Mmo of 0.925 for the first time on setting the new world record for the Fastest Civil Aircraft.

The ultra-large-cabin, ultra-long-range flight-test aircraft took off from Savannah at 1:38 p.m. with Gulfstream's chief test pilot John O'Meara and Senior Experimental Test Pilot Tom Horne at the controls. The aircraft reached its top speed of Mach 0.925 while at 42,500 feet.

"The G650 excelled at its top speed of Mach 0.925," O'Meara said. "Even at near the speed of sound, the aircraft provides stable and precise handling characteristics. It's very responsive to pilot input with fantastic maneuver capabilities. Turns can be initiated and completed without any onset of buffet."

The G650 is a clean-sheet aircraft the US company calls the biggest, fastest and furthest-flying purpose-designed business jet yet.

The previous Guinness world record holder for the Fastest Civil Aircraft was the Cessna’s Mach 0.92 Citation X.

The World's Fastest Civil Aircraft is expected to receive certification from the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency in 2011. It is on schedule to enter service in 2012.
